After loosing the Border Gavasker Trophy and missing out on the World Test Championship, BCCI made it clear that all the players that are centrally contracted have to play domestic cricket if they are fit.
Rohit Sharma, during the press conference, confirmed that he will be playing in Ranji Trophy after a decade.
He last appeared in the tournament in 2015 from Mumbai against Utter Pardesh. Virat Kohli last appeared in Ranji Trophy back in November 2013.
Though the policy was always there, players used to avoid playing domestically for many reasons.
However, the recent setbacks bas pushed BCCI to make a very clear announcement about this matter. They have emphasizes that inorder to be selected in National Team, all the players have to play domestic.
Fans on social media are praising Gautam Gambhir for this change as he is always against the Star Culture in Indian Cricket Team.Former Cricketer Madan Lal has also appreciated the move of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma while saying that he is “happy” that these players are returning back to domestic.
The stars are coming back to the league that made them what they are today. This will help new talent to groom and evolve by playing alongside the greats like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Rohit has confirmed his participation for this season from Mumbai. While Virat has also confirmed his participation, the injury might delay his inclusion.
Rohit Sharma, in the last Border Gavaskar Trophy, faced criticism for poor batting and captaincy and was dropped from playing eleven as well.
There were rumors that he might resign after BGT but the 37-year old Indian batter has put them to a pithole by saying that he will continue to play cricket unitl he feels like he’s done. Its his decision and not somebody else’s.
